Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy
Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy
A different way of experiencing therapy and creating impactful, lasting change.
Are you ready for something different? Have you been in and out of therapy and found it isn’t quite getting you to where you want to go?
Horses reflect what is happening around you. Through their sensitivity and responsiveness, they can mirror what is happening within you—your internal world—and give you information about yourself that may otherwise remain outside your awareness.
Sometimes you can understand your challenges intellectually and talk about them extensively, yet still find yourself experiencing the same patterns.
In Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy, I offer another way of exploring what is happening within you. Rather than relying solely on conversation, the horse becomes part of an experiential process in which your inner experience can begin to reveal itself in the present moment.
Why Horses?
Why Horses?
Horses are highly sensitive, perceptive, and deeply connected to what is happening around them. They continuously respond to subtle micro changes in their environment and in the people they are interacting with.
Because of this sensitivity, horses can serve as mirrors of what is happening in your internal world.
Their responses can give you information about yourself that you may not consciously recognize or know how to put into words. What you experience with a horse can bring something from the inside to the outside—where you can see it, explore it, and begin to understand it in a new way.
In this sense, the horse can become a gateway to your internal world.
Rather than simply talking about change, you have an opportunity to experience yourself in real time. You can become curious about what is happening, explore what it means, and discover possibilities that may not have been apparent through conventional talk therapy alone.
The Therapeutic Experience
What happens in Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy?
In Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy, the horse becomes an active part of the therapeutic experience.
You don’t have to know what the horse’s response means, and I don’t interpret it for you. Instead, you explore what you notice and what the experience brings up for you. The meaning comes from your own experience.
This experiential process can allow therapeutic material to bubble up and emerge naturally and can sometimes bring insight or awareness to the surface more quickly than talking about an issue.
The experience with the horse then becomes a doorway into deeper therapeutic exploration and, ultimately, into the changes you want to make in your life.
My approach draws from equine experiential approaches, together with my clinical experience as a licensed psychotherapist. We can tunnel deep together, right down to the heart of what is going on for you—the what, the why, the how, and what the next steps could look like—to develop a path beyond your challenges toward healing.
Experience the Difference
Experience the Difference
There are things you know about yourself.
There are things you sense but cannot quite explain.
And there are things you may not yet know about yourself at all.
Sometimes, an experience with a horse can help bring those things into awareness.
The horse becomes the mirror.
The experience becomes the gateway.
And the discovery becomes an opportunity for change.

Equine-Assisted Growth & Learning
Equine-Assisted Growth & Learning
Through Equine-Assisted Growth & Learning, I offer an opportunity to engage in this kind of experiential exploration outside of psychotherapy.
You don’t need to arrive with a particular problem or know exactly what you want to discover. The experience with the horse can provide information, perspective, and opportunities for personal discovery that you may not encounter through thinking or talking alone.
The focus is not on teaching the horse to perform or on becoming a better rider. It is on the experience, what it reveals, and what you choose to do with what you discover.
Individuals & Organizations
Equine-Assisted Growth & Learning for Individuals and Organizations
This experiential work can be especially valuable for individuals, leaders, managers, teams, and organizations seeking to explore the human dynamics that influence how people work together, lead, communicate, and navigate change.
Depending on the needs of the individual or group, experiences with the horses may provide an opportunity to explore:
- Leadership and leadership presence
- Communication and interpersonal dynamics
- Trust and relationship-building
- Power, authority, and influence
- Management and supervisory challenges
- Team dynamics and collaboration
- Conflict and conflict resolution
- Boundaries and accountability
- Decision-making and problem-solving
- Adaptability and navigating change
- Emotional intelligence and self-awareness
- Building and maintaining trust
- Psychological safety and workplace culture
- Roles, expectations, and responsibility
- Delegation and empowerment
- Control, autonomy, and shared responsibility
- Giving and receiving feedback
- Difficult conversations
- Motivation and engagement
- Resilience under pressure
- Organizational change and transitions
- Values, purpose, and alignment
- Creativity and innovation
- Identifying and shifting unproductive patterns
- Developing more effective ways of working together
I find Equine-Assisted Coaching and Growth & Learning particularly powerful because it is experiential—you are not simply talking about these dynamics or learning about them conceptually; you have the opportunity to experience them as they unfold in real time.
Horses provide immediate, authentic feedback through their responses to what is happening around them, creating a unique opportunity to observe patterns, experiment with different approaches, and discover what is most effective.
This kind of experiential learning can make insights more meaningful, memorable, and applicable, allowing individuals and groups to take what they discover with the horses and translate it into more effective ways of leading, communicating, and working together.
